So I've been thinking a lot. Well, I hope that I'm always thinking a lot, but lately I've been coming to terms with myself and that I'm never going to be able to save the world. Well duh, you say. No one person can do that much (Jesus excluded), but I'm beginning to feel like it's impossible to save even a little part of it. What good can one person really do? Okay, Claire, you say, anyone can make a small difference in someone's life and therefore make the world a better place. But that's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about actually, and proactively taking a step and doing something when encountered with injustice.
A lot of this is coming out of my recent forays into Baptist history. You know, there were a lot of people that saw the change in the SBC coming and did nothing. At what point does it become too much? And at what risk? I hear murmurings that the BGCT is going the way of the SBC. What then? Retreat into the CBF? How long until the same thing happens? At some point we gave up something in order to be in a group. I wander what this means for the future of Christianity, but more pressingly what it means for the future of Baylor.
Instead of getting an answer to "who is running for BGCT office" I got the response "it doesn't really matter, the battle is over in Texas." WT? What does that mean? And if it means what I think it means, then it's not over. Nothing is over until everyone stops trying. Nothing is over as long as someone is willing to put up a fight. We can't let the BGCT go the way of the SBC. I'm not sure how, but I will fight against it.
Our Bible study said that we resist change because we fear change more than we fear God. But knowing God means embracing hard changes. Why then do we resist? How then do we call ourselves Christians? It's time to take that first step. Please, if anyone is reading this and going to BGCT- let your voice be heard. Proclaim that we will not be ruled by people that want to make the convention more exclusive, rather than inclusive. Proclaim that Christianity is more than what people agree to. Proclaim that the young have a voice and we demand to be heard. Proclaim love for the world.
